Introduction

Common questions & answers

Can anyone else access my data?

No – Only the InfoLock Personal program together with the combination of your user name and password can access your data.

What if I forget my password?

Your secret question and answer will ensure that you can still access InfoLock – both the question and answer are displayed for a few seconds as a reminder every time you successfully login to InfoLock.

Why is the data safe from “hackers”?

All information typed and maintained inside the security of InfoLock is encrypted using your unique combination of username and password. Each item of your data is encrypted in variable blocks ensuring that no other program can read it or make any sense out of the data stored.

If my data is stored “online” what prevents other people from gaining access?

Access is only available using your user name and password plus an additional identity number – this number protects you from the unlikely but possible scenario of someone else having exactly the same user name and password combination. If access is attempted by any other means your data is encrypted and unintelligible to anyone attempting to “hack in”.

Could someone else have identical user name and password?

Although unlikely this is possible. However, as your data is kept on your own pc, USB pen or memory stick they would not be able to access your data, only their own. If you use the online service then there is an additional unique security number that will be allocated to you that ensures that even in the unlikely event of someone else having exactly the same user name and password they will not be allocated the same security number.

If my USB  Memory card or PDA or Phone is stolen what prevents the thief from retrieving all my personal information?

The information accessed via your phone is actually stored online and not on the item itself. In the case of the other 3 portable items, the information is still encrypted. If it is stolen the thief would need to know your user name, password and additional security number to be able to access InfoLock and retrieve your confidential data.

Can I retrieve my data when I am away from my pc, even if I am in a different country?

Yes – you can save your data to a USB pen or memory stick and read the information from any pc or laptop. If you have signed up for one of the On The Go options you could also be able to access your data at any internet café, via your mobile phone or your PDA – any place, any time.

Can I change the data held?

Yes – the information stored in InfoLock can be amended, deleted or updated at any time from your pc. Please note, a view-only version is available from On The Go or USB Pen etc.  The data must be amended via the pc.

If I encrypt an existing file is it no longer accessible through normal means?

The original file will still be accessible as only a copy is encrypted and stored in the security of InfoLock. You may decide to delete the original file and only keep the InfoLock copy, it is up to you. If you do delete the original file you can always restore the InfoLock copy to its’ original location in its’ original unencrypted version if necessary.

I want to use all the On the Go options but I don’t want to type in all my data 4 times – what do I do?

The copy/paste facility is available – you can copy from within InfoLock itself or from a word or any other text document.

Someone else knows my user name and password – can I change them?

No –your user name and password are an integral part of the security of InfoLock. If you believe that your identity is known then you should use the Utility option in InfoLock and erase all your data. You can then download a new version of InfoLock Personal and start again.

Q. What if I change my pc – can I transfer the program onto my new pc?

No  - Infolock personal is specially designed for a single and personal use. A new licence would need to be obtained.

Q. What if I change my pc – will I still have access to my data?

Yes – if you have saved your data onto a USB Pen or Memory stick before changing your pc or if you use any of the On the Go options, your data will still be available for viewing only. However, if you want to be able to amend, add or delete your data you will need to obtain a new licence.

Q. What if my Hard Disk Crashes and I have to reinstall all the programs?
Download and reinstall the programs using the same username and password as the original. Once you have done this send us an email using your original email address and quoting your user name (not your password) – we will then send you your activation code free of charge.
